Bihar: 20 women attacked with blades at Dussehra mela

Locals said attacks on women during Dussehra have been reoccurring in the area for last two years and despite knowing this, the administration did nothing to check it.

The injured women were taken to a government hospital and given treatment.

The Durga Puja festivities turned out to be a horrific experience for almost two dozen women in Jehanabad district of Bihar when they were attacked with sharp blades by a group of anti-social elements at the local mela (fair) organised in the town.
The incident took place during the annual Dussehra mela which was organised in Thakur Bari area of Jehanabad. According to eyewitnesses, most of the women injured were between the age group of 20 to 30. Most of them were attacked below the waist which left them bleeding.
The attack on the women led to a chaotic situation at the mela with many of them trying to leave the spot in haste. The local administration reached the spot and took the injured women to a government hospital where they are being treated.
Speaking to India Today TV about the incident, District Magistrate, Jehanabad, Alok Ranjan Ghosh and Superintendent of Police (SP) Manish Kumar said that they are trying to identify the people responsible for the attack.
The police are also scanning through the CCTV footage from the venue to identify the attackers and apprehend them.
