Filmmaker Abhik Bhanu’s book ‘Stool Piegon’ bags Dada Saheb Phalke book of the year award
Filmmaker Abhik Bhanu is elated nowadays as his book titled ‘Stool Piegon’ has won ‘book of the year award’ at recently concluded prestigious ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Award’.
Abhik Bhanu was interacting with the media on Tuesday in Mumbai.
Abhik Bhanu’s ‘Stool Piegon’ is based on street kids who belong to poor financial background and who beg for living on streets and traffic signals.
Talking about his award winning book, Abhik said, “Dada Saheb Phalke Award is usually given to people who have contributed to society; mostly technicians are bestowed with such prestigious award. As a writer I got the award, I think they must have realized that through this book, my voice and those kids voices, will probably reach the ears of politicians, who are working relentlessly in making these street kids life worse.”
Abhik Said that he is planning to make a film on same subject, he said, “People in Mumbai ignore these kids living on the streets, hanging around traffic signals. These slum dweller kids are there for years now and no one cares, especially politicians. Now that the book has won an award, people tend to take award winning books seriously and films being such a strong medium, I am planning to make a film on the book itself”
Filmmaker Abhik is an avid writer and shared details about his next book. He added, “This is my second book, first one titled ‘Dark Rainbow’, my next book is ‘Blind Faith’, and so I keep on writing books. I enjoy making films and writing books.”
Sharing his feeling for getting ‘book of the year award’ at Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, Abhik said, “Winning the award is an honor and after winning such a prestigious award, I feel it is a big responsibility, which nudges you to work better with film-making and writing”
He added, “My book Stool Pigeon has been honored with Book of the year award. This title is huge, I am happy and feeling encouraged.”
